How to use the IP address lookup
- Paste a public IPv4 address such as
8.8.8.8, or a public IPv6 address. - Select Check IP.
- Review the ASN, organization, country, network, and available location fields.
- Compare the result with logs or another data source when accuracy is important.
What the lookup results mean
- ASN: the identifier for the autonomous network announcing the IP range.
- Organization or ISP: the network operator or organization associated with the address.
- Network: the larger IP range containing the submitted address, when available.
- Location: an approximate network location, not a precise device or home address.
IP geolocation limitations
IP databases describe networks, not exact people or devices. Mobile carriers, VPNs, corporate gateways, CDNs, satellite providers, and recently reassigned address ranges can make a result appear in a different city or country. Do not use an IP lookup as proof of a person's identity or precise physical location.
